Overview

What this filing actually does

FCRA renewal extends your NGO's permission to receive foreign contributions for another five years.
The application is filed online in Form FC-3C on the MHA's fcraonline portal, with affidavits from office bearers and key functionaries.
Renewal must be applied for within six months before the certificate's expiry date.
A Darpan ID (NITI Aayog registration) is mandatory for filing the renewal.
Foreign contributions must flow through the designated FCRA account — currently required to be with the SBI main branch at Sansad Marg, New Delhi.

Benefits

Why NGOs get this done through us

Open each benefit to see what it means for you.

The window never sneaks up on you

We track your expiry date and start the renewal process in time, so the six-month rule is never a scramble.

Affidavits and annexures, done right

Each key functionary needs an affidavit in the prescribed proforma. We prepare all of them, not just the form.

Annual returns checked first

Pending or inconsistent FC-4 annual returns are a common renewal headache. We review your filing history before we file.

No interruption to donor funds

A filed-on-time renewal keeps your certificate alive while the Ministry decides — donors keep giving, projects keep running.

Documents

Documents you will usually need

Clear, current documents matter more than a long checklist. Names, dates of birth and addresses should match across records.

0 documents marked ready Tick what you already have. This checklist resets when you leave the page.

Process

How we handle your renewal

You’ll see each stage, what’s pending and what we need from you — so filings don’t bounce back.

Step 1 of 5

Check your expiry and filing history

We confirm your certificate's validity and review past FC-4 annual returns for gaps that could stall the renewal.

Collect functionary details and affidavits

We gather Aadhaar and background details of all key functionaries and prepare each affidavit in the required format.

Prepare Form FC-3C

The renewal application is compiled with all annexures, receipts-and-utilisation summaries, and supporting documents.

File on the MHA portal

We file FC-3C online, pay the government fee, and generate the application reference number for tracking.

Track till decision

We monitor the application status and respond to any Ministry queries until the renewed certificate arrives.

Plain-language guidance

FCRA rules are dense. We tell your trustees exactly what is needed and why, without the legalese.

NGO compliance is a practice area, not a side service: We handle FCRA work regularly — renewals, annual returns, and utilization certificates — so the Ministry's expectations are familiar.

If a founder or investor is outside India

Foreign ownership is possible in many sectors, but it adds document authentication, banking and FEMA work. Set the route before funds move.

Plan before you start

  • Check whether your sector permits automatic-route foreign investment
  • Confirm the Indian resident director arrangement
  • Map ownership, beneficial ownership and pricing
  • Allow time for apostilled or consularised documents

Plan for after setup

  • Receive funds through permitted banking channels
  • Complete RBI/FEMA reporting and keep the bank evidence
  • Coordinate tax and ongoing compliance advice early

Within six months before your registration certificate expires. Applying earlier in that window is safer — it gives room for Ministry queries.
You cannot legally receive or utilise foreign contributions after expiry. Late applications carry a higher fee and, more importantly, a gap period with no valid certificate. Talk to us early rather than late.
Processing typically takes several months — published guidance suggests 90 to 180 days, and queries can extend it. A timely filing keeps your certificate alive during the decision period.
A government fee applies and is paid online at filing; delayed applications carry a higher fee. Request a quote and we will confirm the current fee schedule for your case.
Yes. NITI Aayog's Darpan registration is required to file FC-3C. If your NGO doesn't have one, we help you get registered first.
Indian functionaries need Aadhaar details; foreign members provide passport or OCI copies. Everyone needs an affidavit in the prescribed proforma.
Unfiled returns are the most common renewal blocker. We assess what is missing and regularise the filings before the renewal goes in.
If you applied before expiry, the certificate generally remains valid until the Ministry decides. If you applied late or after expiry, you cannot. We will confirm your specific position.
