Overview

What a DIN is and who needs one

DIN is a unique 8-digit number the MCA issues to anyone who wants to be a director of a company in India.
You need it before you can be appointed as a director - the company files your DIN details at appointment.
One person gets one DIN for life. It stays with you across companies and directorships.
Companies incorporated through SPICe+ get DINs allotted automatically for up to three proposed directors - a separate DIR-3 is only needed when that route does not cover you.

Benefits

Why founders file DINs through us

Open each benefit to see what it means for you.

Rejections caught before filing

Most DIR-3 rejections come from name mismatches between PAN and the form, or an expired DSC. We check both before we touch the MCA portal.

DSC handled in the same flow

DIR-3 needs a digital signature. If you don't have one yet, we arrange it as part of the same process so nothing stalls.

Foreign directors covered

Passport-based applications for foreign nationals have their own document rules - apostille, attestation, translations. We have done enough of these to know the pitfalls.

Appointment paperwork aligned

We make sure the DIN, the board resolution, and the DIR-12 appointment filing all tell the same story.

Documents

Documents you will usually need

Clear, current documents matter more than a long checklist. Names, dates of birth and addresses should match across records.

0 documents marked ready Tick what you already have. This checklist resets when you leave the page.

Process

How we handle your DIN application

You’ll see each stage, what’s pending and what we need from you — so filings don’t bounce back.

Step 1 of 4

Document check

You share your PAN, address proof, and photo. We verify the name spelling matches exactly across documents - this is where most rejections start.

DSC arrangement

If you don't already have a digital signature certificate, we get one issued in your name.

DIR-3 preparation

We fill the form, attach your documents, and have you sign it digitally.

Filed and approved

We file on the MCA portal and track approval. You get your DIN allotment letter, ready for your director appointment.

If a founder or investor is outside India

Foreign ownership is possible in many sectors, but it adds document authentication, banking and FEMA work. Set the route before funds move.

Plan before you start

  • Check whether your sector permits automatic-route foreign investment
  • Confirm the Indian resident director arrangement
  • Map ownership, beneficial ownership and pricing
  • Allow time for apostilled or consularised documents

Plan for after setup

  • Receive funds through permitted banking channels
  • Complete RBI/FEMA reporting and keep the bank evidence
  • Coordinate tax and ongoing compliance advice early

Typically 1-3 working days after we file, assuming documents are clean. If the MCA raises a resubmission query, add a few more days.
No. The Companies Act requires every director to have a DIN before appointment. A company cannot appoint you without one.
Yes. You apply with your passport instead of PAN, and the documents need apostille or consular attestation. The process takes a bit longer, but it is routine for us.
Yes, a modest government fee applies on DIR-3. We confirm the current amount before filing and include it in your quote.
DIN is for company directors; DPIN is the equivalent for designated partners of an LLP. Same idea, different form.
Usually yes. Deactivation most often comes from missing the annual DIR-3 KYC. We file the KYC with the applicable fee and get the DIN reactivated - typically within a couple of working days.
You can, but DIR-3 has a high first-time rejection rate - usually over document mismatches or DSC issues. If your time is worth more than a refiling cycle, hand it to us.
No. One DIN follows you across every directorship you hold. Never apply twice - duplicate DINs are an offence under the Companies Act.
