Name Change For Individual

Name change refers to the process of legally change in the name of a person which is different from the person’s birth, marriage, or adoption name. It can be the deletion or addition either the initial name or the persons first, middle, or last name. after the name change the new name becomes the person legal name. The most important criteria in the name change of a person is that an individual must be over 18 years of age, because the procedure can be different for the name change of the minor. Central Government Employees will be required to submit Deed with Government. Indians who are living abroad, have to submit deed duly attested by the respective Indian Embassy to this Department. Name of a person cannot be changed for any intentions like an intention to commit fraud or an unlawful act.

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE

It is said that the marriages are made in heaven. It is mandatory to register all Marriages in India. It can be either be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The Hindu Marriage Act is applicable to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains or Sikhs whereas the Special Marriage Act is applicable to all the citizens of India irrespective of their religion. For marriage registration the age of bride must be of 18 years and age of grooms must be of 21 years. Marriage can be solemnized in the court in the presence of Marriage Officer after completion of which a marriage certificate is issued the Marriage certificate. Marriage Certificate is necessary while applying documents like PAN Card, visa or passport after marriage. In Delhi, the SDM office opens on Monday, Wednesday & Friday for Marriage Registration Certificate. Basic requirement for Marriage Registration Age of Bride must be at least 18 years Age of Groom must be at least 21 years Minimum 2 witnesses are required to register a Marriage Affidavits by the Bride & Groom

Process of Name Change

    Name change Affidavit

    Make an affidavit for change in the name of a person and submit to the authority. It should be attested by the Judicial Magistrate or Notary or an Oaths Commissioner.

    Advertisement

    An advertisement for the change in name in the local newspapers with details of the change in name, it should include old name as well as new name, full residential address, name of witness and date of affidavit.

    Central Gazette Notification

    Publication of change in name in Central Gazette required and it is mandatory for Govt. Employees. The important Documents are Request letter, Affidavit, Proforma Notification, Verification Certificate etc

    Confirmation

    After all the procedure, the Department of Publication will grant the certificate of Change of Name.
