IEC Registration

Importer Exporter Code is a mandatory requirement by all the entities engaged in export or import of goods. It is a 10 Digit PAN based Code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India which is valid for all the branches or factories of the importer/exporter. Once the IEC code is generated, it is valid for lifetime of a business or the till it is surrendered. There is no hassle of renewal or update in IEC Code. There is no recurring compliances to be made by business having IEC Code.

Only a single IEC can be obtained on one PAN. IEC code is only required when goods are imported or exported for commercial purpose but not when the for personal use. Import or Export made by Government departments and exempted agencies also does not require IEC Code. Banks IEC to be mentioned while sending money abroad in case of importers or while receiving money from abroad in case of exporters.
